Assessment of Training Needs in Aviation Sector Nearing Completion
An analysis of the training needs in the nation’s aviation sector started in June 2023 and is now in its final stage.
The Solomon Islands Government engaged an international specialist to develop an effective training program for the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA), the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI), Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Limited (SIACL), and Solomon Airlines, under the World Bank supported Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP).
The specialist, Florence Chanel, has reviewed all training plans held by these entities, identified the gaps, and provided recommended areas where more training is required. The specialist has now returned to Honiara to finalize training programs that can be implemented within the next three years.
This needs analysis is a first step in prioritising funds and resources to ensure ongoing skills development for operational and regulatory personnel. These improved skills and training programs will help to make air transport safer, more efficient, and more reliable.
The Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2) is also working to improve the nation’s aviation sector while delivering important upgrades to selected roads and bridges across the country.
